Paper Shadow Play is a regionally distinctive form of Chinese shadow puppetry --basically, it was the "cinema" of ancient China.

湘潭纸影作为南方影戏中保存最完整、最具特色的一种民间艺术形式，融合了戏曲、音乐、绘画、剪纸与地方唱腔。

Xiangtan Paper Shadow Play is one of the most complete and unique folk art forms among southern shadow plays, blending Chinese opera, music, painting, paper-cutting, and local singing styles.

从人物的衣着服饰到吃穿住行，纸影戏不仅演旧故事，更是不断推陈出新，各个时代最流行的元素从不缺席。

From costumes and makeup to everyday life on stage,paper shadow plays don't just retell old legends --they constantly innovate, always bringing in the trendiest elements of each era.

‌在吴升平爷孙的努力下，传统的纸影艺术也在不断创新。他们为纸影戏新增了Q版影偶角色、动漫影偶角色甚至还有游戏的影偶角色，吸引了当代中国年轻人的关注，也让越来越多的外国朋友喜爱上了它。

Thanks to the efforts of Wu Shengping and his grandson,this traditional art keeps evolving. They've introduced chibi-style characters,anime-inspired figures,and even game character puppets -- capturing the imagination of young people in China and winning more and more fans overseas.

为了向世界推广纸影戏，吴渊不仅创作英文微电影，还通过英文教学向外国友人展示、传递技艺。

To promote paper shadow play globally, Wu Yuan not only produced an English microfilm, but also teaches in English to share the craft with international learners.

2016年，吴渊和他的团队带着他的纸影戏赴法国蒙彼利埃政府大厅及高校展演，2019年参加深圳国际文博会，还赴泰国清迈等地表演。

In 2016, Wu Yuan and his team performed at the Montpellier City Hall and local universities in France. In 2019, they took part in the Shenzhen International Cultural Industries Fair, and also performed in places like Chiang Mai, Thailand.

今年4月，湘潭纸影戏亮相湖南文旅英国伦敦推介会，吴渊通过英文讲解、影偶制作教学及哪吒等创新角色展示介绍纸影的特色。

This April, Xiangtan Paper Shadow Play appeared at the Hunan Culture and Tourism Promotion in London. Through English introductions,hands-on puppet-making workshops, and innovative characters like Nezha, Wu Yuan showcased what makes paper shadow play special.

在这个全新的时代，湘潭纸影戏也是紧跟时代步伐！如今，湘潭纸影戏项目与湘潭大学、湖南科技大学、湖南工程学院等高校建立了产学研合作机制，设立非遗传习基地。

In this new era, Xiangtan Paper Shadow Play is keeping pace with the times!Today, the project has built an industry-academia-research collaboration with Xiangtan University, Hunan University of Science and Technology, Hunan Institute of Engineering, and other institutions, and set up Intangible Cultural Heritage training bases.

吴渊团队还和高校合作开发三维建模技术，实现影偶数字化转化。结合AR技术打造“纸影戏虚实交互剧场”，让大众能够线上观看和参与纸影戏的表演。

Wu Yuan's team is also working with universities on 3D modeling to digitize the puppets. With AR technology, they've created a "Paper Shadow Play Mixed-Reality Theater"， so people can watch and even take part in performances online.
